Another Divorce failure? Asha’s daughter ‘attempts suicide’

Singer Asha Bhosle’s second-born, Varsha, was admitted to Jaslok Hospital at 3 am on Tuesday after her domestic help found her unconscious at the singer’s Prabhu Kunj apartment on Peddar Road.

Some reports suggested the controversial writer had attempted suicide by taking an overdose of medicines.

DCP Ramrao Pawar said: “The doctors did not find any poison in her body. She had taken an overdose of medicines. We’ll decide whether to register a case of attempted suicide after she regains consciousness.”

Film industry sources said Varsha was missing from her mother’s 75th birthday celebrations on Monday.

Bhosle did not respond to text messages sent by Hindustan Times.

Hospital authorities said the 52-year-old was critical, but they refused to comment on the reason for her admission on the pretext of protecting the “patient’s privacy”.

Jaslok CEO Colonel M Masand said: “She is critical. We are treating her and praying she recovers soon.”

Varsha was under observation at the intensive care unit (ICU).

The Gamdevi police said she might have been suffering from depression. Police Sub-inspector CN Jhadav said they did not know what drugs she had taken or whether she had taken any at all.

“We will take her statement when she regains consciousness,” he said.

Varsha was married to corporate communications professional and sports writer Hemant Kenkre.

She had been living with her mother at Prabhu Kunj since her divorce.
