Karnataka may set up authority for IT, BT, nano tech

technology, biotechnology and nano technology in order to promote these sectors.

Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa made the announcement after Chief Mentor of Infosys Technologies N R Narayana Murthy made out a case for such an authority last night at the launch of Karnataka Government's flagship IT event, 'Bangalore IT.biz', to be held here from November 6.

The state government had decided to come out with a semi-conductor policy for Karnataka, given the vast opportunities in the sector, Yeddyurappa said at the function last night.

Meanwhile, Narayana Murthy said that the IT, BT and nano technology sectors need such an authority, separate from the other industries, to cater to their requirements.

These three sectors are "non-polluting", create high-quality jobs and contribute in a big way to exports, he said.

"It is important to have IT, BT, nano technology authority with full powers to ensure that the needs (of these companies in these sectors) are dealt in a friction-free manner", Murthy said. Just like the single window agency under the Industries department, the IT, BT and nano technology needed such an exclusive set up, he suggested.

He requested the Chief Minister to look into the possibility of creating an IT, BT, nano technology authority to which all the prospective investors would go.

Murthy also stressed the need for the government to "make life easy for IT companies to start operations in Karnataka".

"I am number one" screamed Usain Bolt

(BEIJING, August 20) -- "I am number one" screamed new 200 meter world record holder Usain Bolt into a TV camera lens after leaving the field for dead to complete an Olympic gold sprint double -- both in world record times.

You better believe it. Cool, calm and charismatic in his pre-race preparations, for once here is an athlete who can live up to the hype once the gun has been fired. One day short of his 22nd birthday, Bolt blasted out of his blocks and crossed the finish line 19.30 seconds late to slice two-hundredths of a second off the previous mark of 19.32. By comparison, the rest of the world class field left trailing in Bolt's wake looked like a bunch ungainly dads competing on school sports day.

For Bolt, it seems, is the real deal. The Jamaican hasn't so much re-written the record books in the past five days -- rather he has given athletics the boost it needs.

For the remainder of the summer, children across the world will attempt to emulate this new ebullient sprint king. With five days to go, it is safe to say that Beijing 2008 belongs to Usain Bolt. In terms of numerical superiority, swimmer Michael Phelps' awesome first week makes him an all-time Olympic great. And Bolt has some catching up to do to match the marvelous record of American sprinter Carl Lewis -- the last man to complete the Olympic 100m and 200m sprint double. Let's not forget that for good measure Lewis also won the Long Jump and the 4 x100 Relay in Los Angeles, and nine Olympic gold medals in total.

Obama outlines VP criteria who will be a male

Barack Obama has laid out his key criteria in a vice presidential pick - somebody who will be the diametric opposite of Dick Cheney - but did not air any names.

Obama’s decision on VP imminent

Slide Show: Obama’s historic win

With speculation rife about who the Democratic White House contender will choose as his running mate, Obama said he wanted a true partner in government who has integrity and is unafraid to speak their mind.

“Here’s what I won’t do,” the Illinois senator told a raucous crowd of 2,600 people at an evening rally here, launching an outspoken attack on President George W. Bush and his secretive and enormously influential deputy, Cheney.

“I won’t hand over my energy policy to my vice president. I won’t have my vice president engineering my foreign policy for me. The buck will stop with me, because I’ll be the president,” Obama said.

“My vice president also, by the way, will be a member of the executive branch, he won’t be one of these fourth branches of the government where... he is above the law.”

Obama stayed clear of dropping the names of any potential candidates for his VP nominee, with an announcement expected any day now.

The New York Times reported late Monday that Obama had narrowed down his search to Virginia Governor Tim Kaine, Indiana Senator Evan Bayh and Delaware Senator Joseph Biden, who is a foreign-policy veteran.

Obama did say: “I want somebody who has integrity, who’s in politics for the right reasons.

“I want somebody who’s independent, somebody who’s able to tell me ’you know Mr president, I think you’re wrong on this and here’s why’.”

The candidate will have to “share my passion... someone who’s mad right now that people are losing their jobs and mad that people are seeing their incomes decline and wants to rebuild the middle-class in this country,” Obama said.

Above all, he said, “I want somebody who is capable of being president, who I trust.”

Synopsis: Foxit Reader is a small and fast PDF viewer that is compatible with PDF Standard 1.6. It includes Javascript support, interactive form filler, annotation tools and built-in text converter. Foxit Reader Portable is a portable wrapper for Foxit Reader that saves settings to an INI file instead of the Windows registry.

Another portable wrapper for Foxit Reader you might want to consider is Foxit Portable Edition Launcher. Download the self-extracting EXE and extract to a folder of your choice. Then place the Foxit Reader EXE file in App\Foxit Reader. You also need to check Foxit.ini and make sure the line FoxitExecutable=FoxitReader.exe correctly reflects the name of the Foxit Reader EXE file (there may need to be a space between Foxit and Reader.exe). Thanks to technicolordreamcoat for the suggestion.

Writes settings to: Application folder

How to extract: Download the portable launcher by clicking on the "Download" link above and extract to a folder of your choice. Then download the actual Foxit Reader software as a ZIP package and extract the single EXE file called Foxit Reader.exe to App\Foxit Reader. Rename to FoxitReader.exe (i.e. remove the space between "Foxit" and "Reader"). Launch Foxit Reader Portable.exe.

Lord Krishna's Janmashtami and his wisdom " Yadaa yadaa hi dharmasya"

Janmashtami celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna, when the Moon entered the house of Vrishabha at the constellation of the star Rohini, on the 8th day of the second fortnight of the month of Sravana, which corresponds to the month of Bhadrapada Krishnapaksha at midnight according to the Barhaspatyamana, in the year of Visvavasu, 5,172 years ago in Mathura.

The eighth Avatara, whenever Dharma declines and evil predominates, to establish Dharma and vanquish evil. In the Gita (4/78) the Lord has ordained:

"Yadaa yadaa hi dharmasya glanir bhavati Bharat;
Dharma sansthaapanaarthaaya sambhaavami yuge yuge."

Lord Krishna that perhaps is the omniscient charioteer delivers the wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita to Arjun before the great war of Mahabharata – a Hindu epic. Therefore Krishna is also known as Parthasarathi, or Arjun's/Partha's charioteer.

Sri Krishna who manifests all levels of joy, is also the source of spiritual joy, which overrides mental or emotional joy, just as emotional joy overrides physical joy. If all the three are integrated and interdependent, then the observance of the festival takes on the full meaning of Krishnaarpanamastu - let everything be offered to Sri Krishna.

Janamashtami is celebrated with great fervour all over India especially at Mathura and Brindavan where Lord Krishna spent his childhood. Temples and homes are beautifully decorated and lit. On Janamashtmi, devotees keep daylong fasts and keep themselves awake while chanting holy songs, until midnight follows.

Chandrayaan-I set for launch later this year: Kasturirangan

India's maiden moon mission Chandrayaan-I is set for a late October or an early December launch, noted space scientist and former Isro chairman Krishnaswamy Kasturirangan said.

The spacecraft, which will carry five Indian and six international experiments, has been assembled and undergoing a series of tests, he said.

The unmanned mission, which will orbit the moon for two years, is expected to be launched in by late October or early December by Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV), said Kasturirangan, a Rajya Sabha member who is also the Director of National Institute for Advances Sciences, Bangalore.

He was speaking at a function here last evening to release a book titled, "Destination Moon: India's Quest for the Moon and Beyond" authored by science writers Pallava Bagla and Subhadra Menon.

The spacecraft, which is no bigger than a typical office cubicle, is currently undergoing tests for its ability to handle the extreme thermal and vacuum environment experienced in a lunar orbit. These assessments will be followed by vibration and acoustic tests.

"The thermovac test will continue about three weeks which takes us to a late October launch otherwise it would be in December as satellite launches do not take place in November, a cyclone season," Kasturirangan said.

Meanwhile, India has already begun work on the next lunar mission in which space scientists plan to land a rover on the surface of the moon to collect rock and dust samples.

Chandrayaan-II will be developed as a joint venture project with Russia and a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed in that regard.
